Rod & Custom. There are all kinds of looney things around his shop, from the Landmaster(!) to a Cadillac Mirage(!), a Comet wagon, assorted Cadillacs and unibody Lincolns, a guitar, Star Trek memorabilia, old tools...

Check out this interview on Speedhunters from a few years ago. Wanted to check his place out for years, it (and he) is a goldmine.

The reason I stumbled across the pics is that I was trying to get info on how much the metalworking classes cost and how available they were. Don’t know when other than tending to have them in November at the least, but prices are apparently around $400. For a two-day hands-on with somebody like this - I’m willing to say not a bad deal at all.

That’s a deal and a half. Is it for any experience level or aimed at the experienced fabricator? November-February are probably the only times it’s cool enough to not die while inside a metalshop, the best time to hang out in the desert. Otherwise it’s the surface of the sun out there.

It’s pretty much an intro to medium thing, but he goes over forming, working with pieces, hammer welding, spot welding, leading, chopping/sectioning (!) and even arcane things like window-channel forming. Apparently the classes are pretty small. He does (or has done them) multiple times a year in different places across the country, but I haven’t yet figured out how to find the schedule.

That sounds amazing. Wonder if scheduling is a Coconut Wireless sort of thing.

The semi-official Gene Winfield website is hilariously unweb, so call or email might be the way to go. I wonder if I want to go to Cali this year...

Now there’s an idea.

I love the dash...

Yep. One of the zany extremes of the Ford “make every knob on the dash the same” scheme, and the textured speedo background is so... odd.
